Businesses in UK investing more heavily in mobile, local search

A new report from Econsultancy and Guava reveals twice the number of client-side marketers in the UK are now involved in mobile search.

The Econsultancy/Guava "UK Search Engine Marketing Benchmark Report 2011", published last week, reveals that 16% of client-side marketers are now activity involved in mobile search - twice as many as recorded in last year's report. A further 45% plan to invest in mobile search.

In addition, 30% of businesses were found to be involved in local search - an increase of 3% on last year. Almost half of agencies deemed local search to be a more valuable activity than social search (21%) and 21% are planning to invest more in this area in future.

"Local search offers fantastic opportunities for search engines to improve relevancy and for advertisers to better target audiences," said digital marketing agency Guava's SEO Director Teddie Cowell.

"Our own internal stats have also shown particularly rapid growth in mobile and alternative devices since Christmas so I'm not surprised the number of companies involved with mobile has doubled."
