Brainshark releases QR code tool

As the craze around coupons continues to grow, some brands are looking into the effectiveness of QR codes. Although QR codes can contain a deal or coupon, many actually include product information; this type of added value is interesting to brands who want more function in their product tools. A new release from Brainshark makes it simple to create QR codes which can then be deployed with a simple embed instruction.

I recently had the chance to chat with Brainshark's Vice President of Product Marketing Andy Zimmerman about the relevance of QR codes in today's marketing mix.

Kristina: "How big are QR codes currently for consumers?"

Andy: "Thanks to skyrocketing smartphone usage among consumers, QR codes are increasingly being incorporated in marketing campaigns, advertisements and promotions. As a result, more and more consumers are seeing QR codes within the magazines, brochures and websites they read on a daily basis. We're seeing that people often get excited to scan the QR codes due to the mystery of what is behind them and to see what they ultimately reveal. To keep consumer interest, it's important that when marketers employ QR codes, they have a high-impact message to share. As the smartphone explosion continues - and because QR code technology is often cost-effective and easy to leverage - it's likely that QR codes will continue to increase in popularity."

Kristina: "The codes can include discounts, as I understand, but are the codes more beneficial as an 'added value' - for instance, additional product info, images, product reviews, etc.?"

Andy: "From a business prospective, QR codes are definitely beneficial as an 'added value' - as they provide more detail and information in a unique way to engage customers, prospects and other business audiences. Whether linking to discounts and promotions or to product videos and demos, QR codes serve to point people to additional information hosted on the Web. By offering our new QR code capability, Brainshark now lets users connect with their audiences in an even more engaging and interactive manner - providing another simple, convenient and free way to consume timely and compelling video content."
