CannedBanners rolls out self-serve, ecomm option

Etailers within Shopify's platform have one more option when it comes to advertising: flash banner ads. This week, CannedBanners rolled out a new banner creation platform, which is self-serve, for the site.

The platform is aimed at helping small or local businesses easily create flash banner ads; because the offering is self-serve businesses can use art and text that are already created. The platform can be installed within etailers' Shopify stores free of charge.

"This app marks the next step for Canned Banners. It's the first time we've integrated our ad builder into an external platform. Integration with Shopify makes building a banner ad extremely fast and easy for Shopify store owners," said Myles Younger, Co-Founder of CannedBanners. "We can't wait to see the ads they'll create."

The flash banners can contain actual product images, business logos or even a company name. Along with customized color schemes and unique text, the banners give small advertisers another option within the ecommerce space. Added to that, the banner app is self-serve, so banners can be created quickly or changed on the fly as a business needs. The ads could be used for both display and retargeted campaigns.

Recently ZenithOptimedia released a forecast predicting that the Internet would be the second-largest advertising platform by 2013, replacing newspapers for the first time. According to the report online ad spending will increase by about 14% per year through 2013 while newspaper ad spending will fall by just over 1% per year. Television is expected to remain the top advertising medium.
