Report: DigiCoupons up 41% Year over Year

The coupon industry continues to soar. According to's recent Trend Report coupon distribution increased by nearly 7% in 2010 with more than 40% growth in coupon redemption. For CPG and retail brands this is a sign that consumers continue looking for deals even though the job market and economy continue to improve.

The report found:

• The average DigiCoupon user has a household income of $105,000
• 36% of DigiCoupon users are college educated
• Those with household incomes over $100,000 are twice as likely to redeem DigiCoupons
• 73% of all US shoppers have used DigiCoupons
• DigiCoupon growth beat out print coupon growth 6 to 1

"More and more consumers are making digital coupons a part of their shopping routine, accessing them across the entire digital domain - including the Web, in social media, with consumer electronics, via their mobile phones, etc.," said Steven Boal, CEO of Incorporated. "With the continuing weakened economy...we expect consumers will increasingly look to digital coupons as an effective means to cut costs and save money."

The food/CPG industry continues to lead the coupon category, with most people redeeming coupons for cereals, yogurts, portable snacks or lunch meat. Baby products and household cleaners are also highly likely to be redeemed. Southern cities are most likely to be coupon redeemers with Atlanta, Tampa, Charlotte, Nashville, Miami, Dallas and Oklahoma City in the top twenty cities for coupon redemption. Midwestern cities are also highly likely to redeem coupons - Cincinnati, Cleveland, St. Louis, Kansas City, Wichita and Minneapolis are also in the top twenty.
