AdGenesis: Nearly half of consumers actively search for deals

Etailers and retailers around the globe are asking their workers - and one another - how is the shopping season? Are people buying? What is influencing the purchases and how can we work on more conversions? While many of these questions cannot be answered for the entire 2010 holiday shopping season for a few more days, a new poll from AdGenesis sheds some early light on what is influencing shoppers to buy this holiday season.

adgenesis.pngThis holiday season has been punctuated with several big-spending days, but what many online and offline retailers may not realize is that these consumers are still cost-conscious. According to a recent survey by video ad platform AdGenesis nearly half (46%) of consumers are searching out deals this season prior to buying.

Women are slightly more likely to search out coupons (62% of those aged 50-59) with many acting - making a purchase or visiting a website - specifically because of a 'deal email' received from a trusted brand.

Another help for consumers this season? Gifting guides - you know, those 'Top Ten' lists on content websites listing the best buys, hottest gifts, etc? Nearly one-third (30%) of men are likely to be influenced by these gifting guides. However, about half of respondents report being only 'slightly influenced' by these guides so don't waste a lot of time putting content like this together next holiday season.

Other interesting findings include:

• 48% of respondents say they receive at least 6 deal/savings emails per day
• 11% of respondents have joined 6 or more loyalty/rewards programs
• 61% of respondents have joined 1 to 5 loyalty/rewards programs

AdGenesis researchers polled 1,000 consumers during the ending days of November to come to their conclusions.
