Shoutlet releases Facebook ecomm tool

In the grand scheme of things, having a social presence is a huge deal, but businesses also need to manage their social presence. That is where Shoutlet comes in, and with another new tool, called Shop & Share, they are positioning themselves as a social media management leader. The new tool gives brands the ability to create a digital storefront directly in Facebook.

shoutlet.jpgAccording to a recent Altimeter Group report, up to 90% of companies plan to increase their social marketing efforts in 2011; tools such as Shop & Share may help instantly improve communication and revenue from the social front. Meanwhile, the latest information from Experian/Hitwise shows Facebook as the leader for total visit share (10.14%, week-ending 11/20/2010) and the leading social network with a 62% market share. Socnets YouTube (19% share) and MySpace (3.85% share) are the closest competitors to Facebook.

"A digital storefront is a significant part of our online marketing success. Being able to create a uniquely designed e-commerce tab on Facebook allows us to not only engage with our fan base on the world's largest social site, but also watch [customers] share our products with their friends and then drive customers to our website," said Kailin Terrill, Marketing Manager for, a company using the new Shoutlet tool.

"Consumers...are using social media to investigate their purchases, get recommendations, and learn about new products," said Jason Weaver, CEO of Shoutlet. "As a result, retailers are investing more time and money in connecting with their customers on Facebook."

What does Shop & Share do? The tab is basically an additional sales channel but the fact that it is set up within the world's largest social networks is key. Merchants can offer product information as well as a direct link to sell items; from there, sales are tracked in real-time. The tab can be added to existing fan pages. Set-up appears simple: it uses drag and drop technology so that items can be added or information can be changed instantly.

"Our Shop & Share feature allows [merchants] to bring e-commerce to Facebook quicky and directly connect their social media investments with their e-commerce efforts," said Weaver.
