WeShop may change ecommerce

A new platform may soon change the way consumers and brands interact online. Called WeShop, the consumer network helps to connect brands with consumers who have purchased their products in the past. Although the information remains anonymous, the platform may be one more way for brands to push relevant messages to the right consumers at the right time.

The WeShop platform is expected to be out of beta within the next few months.

Through WeShop consumers can bargain hunt for products, share product reviews and information and hook up with brands they buy.

"It is going to change the way we all shop," said Anthony Lee, CEO of WeShop. "At the moment if you buy a brand nobody knows what you bought. Through WeShop if you buy Huggies Diapers the brand will know, through anonymous data, what you've purchased and they will be able to make more offers to [the consumer]. And then other brands can compete with that brand, through the bidding process, to give the consumer the best deals at the right time."

So the platform must be filled with cookies, right? No. Rather than utilizing cookies, WeShop allows the consumer to share only information they approve. That even that information is shared anonymously with brands. The platform analyzes anonymized consumer receipts to find buying trends and information, and then consumers are placed into specific groups which fit their buying profiles.

"We allow consumers to aggregate together to share purchasing information among themselves and then we let [merchants or brands] access that data to make offers to consumers," said Lee. "Let's say a merchant receives information on a consumer buying contacts. That merchant can then bid on the consumer's business, through WeShop, and the consumer makes their next purchasing decision."

To add to the relevancy level, online shoppers are only shown the type of offers for which they opt in. So, if a shopper is only interested in free shipping offers or is only interested in buy one, get one free offers, those are the only types of offers they will be presented.
