Gift Me This feature to connect brands, consumers through social

Just in time for the holiday shopping season PointRoll's ShopLocal retail division is rolling out a Facebook shopping feature. Called Gift Me This, the feature allows consumers to create wish lists for items from circulars and store promotions for placement on their Facebook 'wall'.

"Through engaging and action-inspiring SmartCircular ad units and the 'Gift Me This' feature, retail advertisers can better connect to their shoppers' networks of friends on Facebook, creating a much wider reach for their circulars and ads."

Once the Gift Me This listing is created by a consumer the items placed in the list can, of course, be purchased by friends on their lists.

For marketers, the Gift Me This platform gives more versatility to holiday sales flyers, circulars, catalogs and even print promotions because those items can be immediately put into a Facebook feed by a consumer. Brands can also add custom messages to their localized deals, extend local deals by making it simpler to share information and push comments from SmartCircular sites into users' Facebook feeds.

"Holiday shopping is an exciting time for both retailers and consumers, but breaking through the clutter can be a challenge for advertisers," said Tricia Kokoszka, Program Manager of Retail Mareketing for Staples. "Facebook is at the heart of consumer conversations. ShopLocal's Gift Me This allows us to be invited into those social discussions."

Is this a real idea? I think that this is a fantastic idea. I was trying to find some more information about this but have been unsuccessful. When is it projected to be operational?
