Google tests Tweets in display ads

It wasn't long ago that Tweets began appearing in Google's search results. Now, Twitter is set to be even more prominent on Google searches as the search giant tests display ads integrated with Twitter.

According to a recent article on Clickz, Google has begun testing the integration of Twitter with display ads. The advertiser's latest Tweet will be displayed in an ad displaying the familiar Twitter bird.

Feeds into Google ads aren't new, some retailers already feed product information related to a search query into ads, but the Twitter ad brings an additional element - social media - with an option for the viewer to "Follow" the advertiser as well as click through to a business website.

According to ClickZ's Douglas Quenqua, Google has invited a few advertisers to test the new display-ad integration with Twitter, one being a Norwegian search marketing firm, who were approached by Google at the beginning of May this year.

When Quenqua asked the firm, Qualité Search Marketing, how the new ad format had performed he was told that there had been "a modest boost in followers".
