94 product/brand Tweets broadcast every second

The micro-blogging behemoth continues to grow, according to new data revealed this week by Internet uptime monitoring firm Pingdom, with the number of daily Tweets blasting past another milestone.

pingdom_logo_white.gifPingdom reported the number of tweets made on Twitter in January, 2010, was 1.2 billion, or 40 million each and every day, while a member of the Twitter analytics team, Kevin Weil, said it was more like 50 million per day.

New data from Pingdom reveals that both those milestones have now been surpassed with a current rate of 64 million Tweets per day, that's nearly 2 billion every month or 471 every second.

If Twitter's first VP of Communications, Sean Garrett, is correct and 20% of all Tweets contain product or brand references, that's about 94 each second.

"Maybe Twitter won't quite be able to reach the almost 6 billion Tweets per month we've predicted for the end of the year, but it's clear that the Twitter platform is still growing at a healthy pace," writes Pingdom on its blog. "Close to doubling the volume of monthly Tweets in the last six months is no small feat."
