yStats: Global preferred online payment methods revealed
Across the globe consumers are using a variety of payment methods to purchase online, but do you know which consumers use what, and where?
In the U.S., credit cards were the preferred method of payment for shoppers online over the 2009 holiday period (67%) followed by debit cards (36%).
However, across the globe a wide variety of payment methods are used. A recent report from yStats.com, "Global Online Payment Methods 2010" takes an in-depth look into the preferred payment methods used worldwide.
A selection of key findings includes:
- German men use credit cards for more than 40% of online purchases but German women continue to use the traditional direct debit method.
- Italy's preferred online payment company in 2009 was "Banca Sella" (31%) followed by "Cartasi" (19%) and "PayPal" (15%).
- "iDeal" was the most accepted payment method in the Netherlands in 2009, with 89% of merchants accepting it.
- Money transfer (43%) was the preferred payment method of B2C e-commerce consumers in China in 2009.
