Where2GetIt finds businesses on Facebook, tells consumers

Several notable brands have signed on to be 'found' on Facebook. The new option, from Where2GetIt, allows businesses in Facebook's space to launch a simple business locator which then helps consumers find local addresses for regional or national brands. Chick-fil-A, Carhartt and Cooper Tire are three of the first brand names to sign on with the service.

The locator is deployed on a branded Facebook page and allows consumers who have 'fanned' the brand to find the businesses according to location. For example, a consumer in Memphis could find the closest Chick-fil-A from their work place or a person in Denver could find the closest retailer of Carhartt goods. Traffic is then pushed to the local business.

How much potential does the business finder have? According to Chick-fil-A, their 1.5 million Facebook fans have used the locator service nearly 5,000 times in one month.

"We are definitely excited about the Facebook Locator," said Michael McCathren, Chick-fil-A marketing representative. "We like that our fans can stay within the Facebook environment and still have easy access to find our locations nationwide."

Another example of how the locator can be used, "For example, if a fan shares Carhartt's Facebook wall post about a new jacket with a friend, with one click that friend can find out where to buy it online or in-store from within Facebook," writes Where2GetIt.

The locator platform is one of the first pushing social marketing into a measurable ROI business tool. The locator apps can be added to consumer webpages so that their friends can also use the tools. The locator tracks consumer behaviors, engagement and the number of times it is downloaded.
