Vitrue gives social marketers mini-app option

Atlanta-based social marketing firm Vitrue has one more option for marketers targeting Facebook users: mini apps. For most marketers in the Facebook space, targeting consumers on the news feed is nearly impossible because of the amount of content on that page. The new offering gives marketers the ability to insert mini-apps into news feeds rather than just texted updates.

Vitrue's partners using products such as The Vitrue Social Relationship Manager (SRM), are seeing dramatic increases in both the number of fans and engagement levels of those fans using Wall Apps," said Reggie Bradford, CEO of Vitrue. "This has led to an incredible growth of aggregate fans managed by Vitrue products to over 22 million, up from less than one million only 12 months ago."

Wall Apps can include customized coupons, polls and quizzes - an increasingly popular pastime for Facebookers - as well as slideshows, email and event applications. Vitrue states that inserting apps into news feeds rather than simple text creates greater engagement and awareness from the consumer to the marketer. According to the company Facebook apps can have up to 100 times greater reach than tabs or other sections of the profile page.

Just how important is the social marketplace? Although there is still argument about exactly what consumers are doing in the social space regarding advertising one thing is clear: overall consumers are spending much more time with social networks than ever before.

On average Australian consumers spend 7 hours per month socially and consumers in the US, Italy and the UK spend about 7 hours socially per month. Similar findings are true in Spain and in Japan.
