ShareThis makes it simpler to find, monetize content

We're talking a lot about social marketing this week, in part because the social space is such a high-profile area for both marketers and consumers. As more consumers create accounts more marketers come into the social space. The problem with this is that the social space is now becoming cluttered with a lot of content and many messages are getting lost in the shuffle. How can you, as marketers, still be heard?

sharethisJPG.jpgA new platform from ShareThis may help consumers - and marketers - find the content and conversations for which they are looking more quickly. Called ShareThis Stream, the platform gives users the ability to see what friends or followers are saying and sharing around the web. From there users can merge or share their content, comments or information.

At its simplest, the ShareThis Stream is a great tool for cutting through the noise of the Web using the most valuable filter you have - your friends. At its deepest, the ShareThis Stream represents a wider switch that's happening right now, as sharing becomes more than just a simple utility and moves toward being a central social action for Web users," writes Tim Schigel, ShareThis CEO, via the ShareThis blog.

The platform scours more than 130,000 publisher websites to aggregate content, sharing that content and the comments about that content to the stream of users.

"People share content, interact with friends, and get their information about the world through several disconnected places online, which often leads to fragmented discovery of quality content and limited conversations," said Schigel, CEO. "We live in an era of content overload but sharing has the power to cut through that overload by surfacing the stuff we really care about. The ShareThis Stream takes sharing to the next level; sharers and receivers can now connect around content and conversations in one place, either on our site or, soon, publishers' sites."

In the future, ShareThis will make streams available to publishers to use on their own publishing sites so that the most popular content is 'surfaced' and easy for users to find. That would also make monetizing content areas simpler because advertisers could see which types of content, articles or blog posts are the most popular or drive the most traffic.
