Travel industry tunes in to Twitter
Twitter is becoming a mainstream communication channel for B2C and B2B enterprises alike. Even travel industry players are increasing their use of the micro-blogging platform to communicate with users, as a recent survey discovered.
The survey of 90 Twitter users, ranging from directors of U.K tour operators to paid travel bloggers, was recently conducted by Andy Jarosz, writer and owner of travel blog 501 Places.
While the majority of respondents had only started using Twitter within the last six months, he found the micro-blogging platform was becoming a prime communication channel between travelers and related companies such as hoteliers, tour operators and transport providers.
The study revealed that more than half of users (52%) tweeted between four and 10 times a day, with over a quarter sending more than 10 Twitter updates daily.
"The power of Twitter is its ability to facilitate instant conversations, often between multiple users, around any issue," said Jarosz. "Travel lends itself well to this medium, and it is encouraging to see so many tour operators now developing a Twitter presence and talking to their potential customers."
