Facebook adds news feed targeting feature for Fan Pages
Do you have a Fan Page on Facebook? If so, the social networking behemoth's latest fan engagement feature should be of great interest, particularly for those with global audiences.
The new feature allows Fan Page administrators to target wall posts, links, photos, and videos to fans based on location and language. This will enable greater targeting of specific content to increase relevance and bolster brand association.
The knock-on effect might also be that the uber-relevant content is more frequently shared, garnering Fan Page awareness and increasing membership.
Facebook's announcement comes with some suggestions as to how the new feature might be used:
- Global brands: Starbucks, who has over 5MM Fans across the world, may want to talk about a new drink currently only available in the U.K.
- Musicians & Celebrities: The Foo Fighters may want to announce to fans in California that new tour dates have been added across the state.
- Local: Red Mango may want to let fans in Palo Alto, California know that a new frozen yogurt shop is opening locally.
- Celebrities: Roger Federer may want to separately thank his English-speaking and French-speaking fans in their respective languages.
