Study: Young women connected to mobiles
When it comes to all of the technology available to them, young women say the mobile phone is the most important, giving marketers an 'in' on which devices should be targeted for advertising. According to the latest information from the Women & Digital Life study from Solutions Research Group, more than 80% of young women are using wireless devices and nearly 20% are utilizing smartphone technology.
In fact, for women between ages 12 and 24, the mobile phone is fast replacing use of PCs. Researchers found that women under age 25 spend twice as much time on mobiles (2.8 hours/day) as women over age 40. Comparatively, women over 40 spend much more time on PCs (3.5 hours) as women under age 25 (2.9 hours/day).
So, for these two age groups it would appear that mobile content sites should be more heavily targeted for younger women while PCs/online content hubs should be targeted for those over 40.
What are women doing on the Mobile web? Many are using mobiles to share pictures or connect via social networks; many are also taking pictures via mobile phones and uploading those pictures. These women are about 4 times as likely to log on to a social network via mobile than via a PC.
