Offerpal, Tapjoy partner for app monetization

Social monetization platform Offerpal Media has partnered with Tapjoy to give iPhone app developers another way to monetize their apps. The platform allows app developers to sell virtual goods through mobile apps.

"Until recently, mobile app developers have been at a disadvantage in terms of options to monetize their userbase," said Anu Shukla, CEO and Founder of Offerpal Media. "Developers have told us they need more options to monetize, and the joint Offerpal and Tapjoy solution will help many iPhone app developers make the leap to profitability more quickly and easily."

The platform further allows developers and advertisers to optimize mobile ads in advertising networks, application analytics and even user tournaments.

Just how important are apps and the monetization of apps? According to a report from eMarketer, about 22% of mobile consumers downloaded at least one app each month in 2008. In 2009, that number is expected to reach 73.7 million (26%) and by 2013, more than 43% of mobile consumers are expected to be 'app'd'.

Added to that is the fact that, despite the economic downturn in 2008, the International Data Corporation expects smartphone shipments to grow by more than 3% this year and to triple the shipments of feature phones by 2010.
