Display ads added to AdSense link unit results

Google AdSense publishers that feature link units on their websites can now benefit from improved revenues thanks to image ads embedded in the link unit.

Link units consist of keywords that are linked to pages full of Google ads. According to the Google blog, link units use the same contextual targeting algorithm that targets Google ads to content pages. Instead of ads, the units display a list of topics that are relevant to the page on which it is located. Each topic, when clicked, brings the user to a page of related ads.

Google has recently announced that display ads will appear within the link unit results page. Advertisers can bid on these image ads on a cost-per-click (CPC) and cost-per-impression (CPM) basis.

If not image inventory is available, no ads will be displayed

According to Inside AdSense team member Arlene Lee, "testing showed revenue improvements for many publishers".
