comScore: Hulu breaks into video website top 3
The number of videos viewed online grew 11% in March, according to the latest report from comScore, and while Google still reigns supreme, Hulu's growth continues to boom.
U.S. Internet users viewed 14.5 billion online videos during March, representing an 11% increase on February, according to comScore's most recent Video Metrix. Google (YouTube) topped the rankings with 41% of all U.S. online video viewers.
However, content providers have been making gains against Google's video giant. Fox Interactive Media ranked second with 437 million videos viewed (3% of traffic), followed by Hulu with 380 million videos viewed (2.6% of traffic).
In terms of videos viewed, Hulu overtakes Yahoo to take third place.
So what's been fuelling Hulu's growth? According to Andrew Lipsman, Director of Industry Analysis for comScore, it's "the combination of a compelling user experience, increased consumer awareness of the brand, and an overall market trend toward viewing long-form online video content".
