YouTube provides better insight into viewer engagement

If you have video content on YouTube and you want to know more than simply how many views it's had, you're in luck. The video content site has recently introduced a new set of analytics to YouTube Insight - "community engagement".

YouTube Insights, introduced early last year, allows video uploaders to see a basic breakdown of a video's audience by age and gender and filter it by country or timeframe, as well as how many views it had.

Knowing your YouTube video receives just 10 or 1 million views from men in their 40's is great, but what you really want to know is how that audience engaged with the content, how they rated it and where in the world they came from.

YouTube Insights has been expanded to include just such information. Using the new feature, which can be found under the "Community" tab, uploaders will be privy to more information on how viewers interact with the videos and be able to react accordingly.

According to NewTeeVee, the stats won't directly impact revenues as publishers won't be able to increase ad prices for clips that show more social activity. They could, however, use the data to help negotiate higher rates for their content elsewhere.
