Google Analytics shows website traffic from iPhones

Do you know how much traffic your website gets from iPhone visits? Now you can. Google Analytics' most powerful feature - Advanced Segmentation - now includes a new option to filter traffic data to see how many visits your site receives from iPhone users.

by Helen Leggatt

The number of consumers using iPhones and other mobile devices to browse the net is rising, so it's imperative you know how much traffic to your site comes via this channel.

Why? Because if a substantial number of visitors are using iPhones you may want to check your website is mobile-friendly and, as MG Siegler of Venturebeat points out, to better target AdWords ads to your iPhone audience.

The announcement on Google Analytics' blog illustrates how easy it is to enable the new iPhone segment. "Click on the drop down menu at the top right of any report next to the text "Advanced Segments", and select "Visits from iPhones" in the list of default segments. You might want to turn off "All Visits" when viewing your iPhone segment; if the percentage of total visits to your site from the iPhone is small, it will be difficult to visualize the two sets on numbers on the same graph."
