AdMob: iPhone WiFi ad requests up 52%
According to the latest reports from AdMob, iPhone WiFi ad requests (worldwide) saw a 52% increase from October 2008 to November 2008. This gives iPhone just over 6% share of global ad requests and a nearly 10% share of US ad requests.
The iPhone is also the most used phone for WiFi usage (42% worldwide). Other phone and handheld devices average between 10% and 20%. Other popular phones for surfing the 'Net include the Nokia N95, other N-series phones and iPod Touch models.
What does this mean for marketers? Because more iPhone users are logging on to the Internet, it makes sense for marketers to specifically target iPhone users.
Now is the time for marketers to begin doing more than simple experimentation when it comes to mobile marketing. With more consumers buying Internet enabled phones, marketers have the chance to reach a very engaged segment of their communities. Primarily when mobile consumers log on they want specific information - a restaurant or store location, movie times or pre-purchased tickets, news/sports headlines or directions.
By catching these consumers as they are querying for information is a great way to engage them with your products and services. Mobile consumers have been shown to be very willing to use mCoupons and other offers. So, give them a reason to come into your store or to click through to your mobile website.
