Report: College females blog, visit social networks more often
According to a new report, marketers intent on reaching young females should push more advertising dollars into the social realm. According to Anderson Analytics, college females are more likely to blog and to visit social networks than their college-aged counterparts.
The Anderson Analytics' GenX2Z study found that college students are most likely to visit Facebook (15%) and Google (13%). Yahoo (4%), MySpace (3.2%) and YouTube (2.5%) rounded out the top five most-visited sites. Why are Facebook and Google leading the way? According to the report both platforms have added services that college students want while other platforms - including MySpace - have remained stagnant.
Also gaining popularity in the latest study is blogging. LiveJournal made it's first appearance in the top ten most visited sites in 2008 (2.5% of students visited).
Tom H. C. Anderson, founder and managing partner of Anderson Analytics, "From our other research we know that among online adults, only about 13% read blogs and 3% have their own blog. Students are four times more likely to blog, which means blogging will continue to be a relevant and popular new media."
Further breaking down the social phenomena nearly 85% of college females used Facebook compared to 79% of males while 50% of females used MySpace compared to 30% of males.
