Report: Power of the blog increases in UK
Blogging is becoming mainstream and it continues to draw in more readership. According to a recent comScore report, blogs were visited by nearly half of the UK's total online audience in August.
The report finds that 41% (14.5 million unique users) visited at least one blog during the month of August.
"Blogs have become part of the essential fabric of the Internet today," said Herve Le Jouan, Managing Director of comScore Europe. "They live and breathe in real-time, helping quence media consumers' thirst for the most up-to-date breaking news and analysis." Le Jouan went on to say that, for some, blogs are displacing traditional media such as newspapers.
The most popular blogging platform continues to be Blogger (9 million unique users), closely followed by WordPress (4.8 million unique users) and Six Apart Sites (2.6 million unique users).
Which categories are of most interest to bloggers and blog readers? Humorous (1.1 million users), Lifestyle/Hobby (637,000 users) and Community (Teen 1.05 million users/Women 1.8 million users); these categories also tended to skew slightly higher in their visitor composition. Education and Tech blogs are also highly popular as are Entertainment/News blogs.
