Holiday email campaigns begin earlier
Have you sent any email messages referencing Christmas or the holidays yet? Over a quarter of retailers have, according to The Retail Email Blog, over a week earlier than last year.
Retailers started their holiday campaigns an average of 58 days before Christmas last year, but this year they've already begun. According to Chad White on The Retail Email Blog, 26% of the major online retailers they track have already begun their Christmas email campaigns, compared with 15% at the same time (October 7) last year.
"It's a safe assumption at this point that this year's average start date will be considerably closer to Oct. 15 based on the current trend line," wrote White.
The volume of holiday emails has also increased this year. While 5.4% of emails contained references to the holidays in 2007, during the same period this year 6.3% included references to Christmas.
Greater competition in the inbox is expected this year with more marketers planning to increase email marketing as a predictable source of potential customers.
