comScore: 75% U.S. Internet users watch video online
New figures released by comScore show that three-quarters of the U.S. Internet audience watched online video during the month of July.
In July, across the U.S., 75% of Internet users watched videos online. According to comScore’s latest report, Americans viewed more than 11.4 billion videos for a total duration of 558 million hours during the month.
Other statistics from comScore’s report include:
- The average online video viewer watched 235 minutes of video.
- 91 million online Americans watched 5 billion videos on YouTube.com (54.8 videos per viewer).
- 51.4 million online Americans watched 400 million videos on MySpace.com (7.8 videos per viewer).
- The duration of the average online video was 2.9 minutes.
Despite the increased numbers of Internet users viewing online video, just 21% of streams are monetized. “As a result of the opportunity, online video ad spending is forecast to grow 55% in 2009 vs 2008 to almost a billion dollars,” predicts online video ad network, LiveRail.
