British firms to raise SEO budgets this year

British companies will spend over $3.5 billion on search campaigns this year, according to new findings published by e-Consultancy, as overall spending on search activity is set to continue to rise.

The research firm’s latest “Search Engine Marketing Buyer’s Guide” shows that overall spending on search campaigns will rise by 24% to $4.8 billion this year. Paid search spending will rise 23% over last year to $3.9 billion.

Six out of ten British companies intend to raise their search engine optimization budgets this year, and spending is set to reach $580 million, up 32% on last year.

While lower than in previous years, search growth figures are still healthy, said e-Consultancy’s editor-in-chief, Chris Lake, and the outlook remains positive for the near future.

"Consumer internet usage is flattening out, but the sector is certainly more robust than other media channels that have a less measurable return on investment and should continue to grow for years to come,” he said.
