Keyword analysis key to SEO success

Keyword analysis is a much overlooked part of planning an online campaign, yet knowing what Internet users are searching for is extremely important for search engine optimization success.

yahoo%20logo.jpgIf you are second guessing the keywords Internet users might be using to find your brand or products then think again. Instead of taking a chance on this most important of processes it is vital that much care is undertaken to hone all keywords for maximum effect.

"Consider an advertiser that sells all kinds of karaoke equipment,” explains Kastle Waserman, communications manager at Yahoo. "This advertiser bids on the term 'subwoofer' - but the reality is that most people searching for a subwoofer aren't going to buy it from a karaoke dealer, so these may be wasted clicks."

Other keyword selection tips have been posted by Waserman on the Yahoo Search Marketing blog and include:-

- Consider the buyer and what stage of the purchase decision they are at. Tailor keywords for those that are starting out in their online research and for those further into the process and ready to purchase.

- Use separate ad groups for high- and low-volume keywords to protect quality index scores.

- Bid on obvious keywords such as brand names, buzzwords and product names along with phonetic or common incorrect spellings of each.

Keyword research is definitely one of the most important critical factors of any search engine optimization campaign. The master keyword list is the foundation and core of SEO success. Take an extrad day or two and find an experienced consulting firm that call out the nuances that lie within most keyword groups. Keyword Ideitification and Selection should also include negative keyword amortization especially for active sponsor keywords that are eating away at PPC budgets and resulting in user/site mismatches and poor conversion rates.
