5 Don'ts For Your Next Email Campaign

It seems that a lot of email marketers are still fumbling their email marketing campaigns by not sending welcome messages or including information that isn't easily accessible by consumers on the email list. Here are five more tips to avoid when planning your next email marketing campaign.

First, don't include large sized pictures in the message body. All images in email should be sized to make them easy-to-open by all browsers and all screen sizes. Many large sized images make it difficult for consumers to see everything offered. If a consumer can't see the message, they certainly won't click through.

Second, don't rely on image-based links. Some browsers automatically block images; if a consumer can't see that link, they won't click it.

Third, don't forget the alt tags. Those pesky little HTML tags describe the images used and should also display when an image is blocked. If you're not already including these, start doing so now.

Fourth, don't mail too often. Figure out how often campaigns should be emailed and stick to it; include this information in the welcome message. This way consumers know what to expect from your company and will be less likely to hit that Junk/Spam button.

Fifth, don't forget the preview pane. Most email users view their emails in the preview pane so if your message isn't formatted for the preview pane, you'll miss out on clicks - and buys!
