Google expands Trends service

Marketers can now ascertain the relative popularity and seasonality of search terms thanks to an expansion of Google's Trends service.

by Helen Leggatt

google%20trends.jpgTwo years ago, Google launched Google Trends, a service set up to allow users assess the popularity of search terms according to geographic region, city or language.

The recent expansion of this service will allow users to export this numerical data into a spreadsheet for later comparison. This is particularly useful for marketers developing online strategies by giving an indication of consumer preferences, product popularity and seasonal trends.

Check out Google’s seasonal ice-cream analogy recently posted on their blog.

“Now Google is giving users the ability to search across terms in its database, instantly chart how they compare to other search terms, then export the underlying numerical data into a common spreadsheet format to compare with other data,” reports Reuters.
