Take my PDA but leave me the chocolate
One in five female bloggers in the U.S. is officially bonkers according to a recent study from BlogHer/Compass Partners.
Women are highly active in the blogosphere and over 36 million of them avidly read and passionately write blogs every week, found the BlogHer/Compass Partners' 2008 Social Media Benchmark Study(.pdf). That I can understand.
More than 40% of female bloggers believe blogs to be a reliable source of advice and information. I can understand that too, consumers are increasingly turning to their peers for product and service information instead of corporations.
What I don’t understand is why 20% of women would give up chocolate if it meant keeping the blogs they read and/or write. I mean, come on ladies, priorities.
Apart from confectionery, these passionate female bloggers were also prepared to give up items such as PDAs (49%) and iPods (43%) and life’s little pleasures such as alcohol (55%) and reading the newspaper (43%) as long as their personal blogospheres remained intact.
"When analyzing data from the BlogHer/Compass Partners Social Media Benchmark Study, I was struck by how reliable and dedicated these women are to their blogs and their online communities. Blogging is an integral part of their daily lives and a key source of information and entertainment," said Susan Wright, managing director of Compass Partners LLC.
Just not as integral as chocolate, right?
