Online consumer magazines attract more readers
Online consumer magazines have seen a rise of over 10% in unique visitors during the first three months of 2008, when compared to last year’s data.
The president and CEO of Magazine Publishers of America (MPA), Nina Link, announced earlier this week that the number of unique visitors to consumer magazine websites during the first quarter of 2008 was up 11.9% on the same period last year.
The number of unique visitors to consumer magazine websites for Q1 this year averaged out around 70.7 million unique users per month.
“Publishers are increasingly employing the latest digital innovations to broaden their reach and appeal to an audience that has a clear hunger for magazine online content and communities,” said Link in the announcement.
Online consumer magazine reach has also experienced growth – up from 40.2% in 2007 to 43.4% of Internet users in the U.S. this year. This is good news for advertisers using online magazines, who are already fuelled by research that online magazine readers pay more attention to the advertising contained therein.
The findings are based on an MPA analysis of Nielsen Online-supplied data from 337 consumer magazine brands online.
