Microsoft, Yahoo deal dead - what next?

The big news over the weekend was that Microsoft has pulled out of its offer to buy Yahoo. After months of wrangling and public negotiations Microsoft has finally determined not to raise their bid.

While the deal may be over, the chatter isn’t. From newsite to newsite and blog to blog, the Internet is buzzing with updates and speculation and analysis about what will happen next, who Microsoft might target and scenarios of Yahoo going back to Microsoft within a few months, cap in hand.

Over at TechCrunch, Michael Arrington ponders the possibility of an advertising deal between Yahoo and Google and

Jerry Yang has tried to cut through the media noise of the last three months in an upbeat and employee-rousing post on the Yodel Anecdotal Blog. Readers' comments, however, aren’t all supportive with many believing it was a mistake for Yahoo to miss out on the Microsoft deal.

However, while speculation continues to course through the wires, Yahoo’s share price dropped over 20% Monday morning.
