comScore: Online video grows 60% year over year
As consumers become more familiar with video platforms, more and more are logging on. According to a recent comScore report, video views grew more than 60% from March 2007 to March 2008. Roughly 11.5 billion videos were viewed during the reporting period.
Video views increased 13% over February 2008.
According to the report, Google sites remain the number one video sites for US consumers. Google sites served just over 4 billion videos (a 38% share). YouTube, specifically, accounted for 98% of all videos viewed from Google portals. Next was Fox Interactive Media, with 477 million videos (4.2% share). Yahoo sites ranked third, serving 328 million videos (2.9% share), followed by Viacom Digital (249 million videos served, 2.2% share).
More consumers are logging on to video platforms. Researchers found that more than 73% of online consumers in the US viewed at least 1 video during March. YouTube sites saw the more repeat visitors with each user watching an average of 50 video clips. MySpace videos ranked second with 47 million unique users watching 400 clips (8.4 videos per consumer).
Finally, the time spent on video sites is also increasing. On average, each user watched 235 minutes of video during the reporting month. Each video averaged 2 minutes and 40 seconds.
