Savvy execs want virtual business by 2012
Major advances in technology, and being comfortable with that technology, have both been big factors in the desire for an increasing number of American companies to go totally virtual in the near future.
According to a study conducted by TIE Commerce earlier in the year, over half (53.4%) of U.S. companies are considering going completely virtual in the next five years.
If their businesses could afford it, 31% of the C-level executives surveyed said they would be ready to go virtual immediately.
"The survey results did not come as a surprise to us because we have already seen a great demand for e-commerce in recent years. In today's global economy, it is becoming increasingly important for everyone to stay connected with their enterprise partners. What surprised us the most was the overwhelming number of executives who wanted to go completely virtual in next five years," said Brian Tervo, president and CEO of TIE Commerce, in a recent statement.
The survey showed that most (80.8%) of the executives surveyed were aware of, and familiar with, the advantages of e-commerce, and 83.6% said that their willingness to go virtual was due to their comfort level with technology.
