KickApps, WorldNow partner for local TV social networking

Local television stations suffering from a lack of revenue may get a boost from a new partnership between KickApps and WorldNow. Like local newspapers, local TV stations have noticed lowered revenue numbers as consumers turn to the Internet for their news and information. With the partnership, stations could create an interactive local news environment.

There are opportunities for marketers, too. By creating a local website which influences consumers to visit day after day to share news and information, TV stations can offer targeted traffic to local businesses.

“Sponsorships and promotions based on user-generated contests are a tremendous opportunity for local broadcasters to offer targeted sales programs to national and local advertisers,” said Todd Randak, EVP Business Development at WorldNow. “Our customers now have the ability to use KickApps’ innovative applications and WorldNow’s consulting services to create niche online communities and consequently, new revenue opportunities.”

Through the partnership, WorldNow's broadcast partners can offer local users' platforms like blogging, video sharing, message boards and content syndication via widgets. A local Cleveland, Ohio television station has seen a nearly 90% traffic increase since launching their site three months ago.

When combined with the local news content already offered by the TV stations, the user-generated content created by local consumers is a great opportunity for local advertisers.
