VideoCensus: 5.9 billion video clips viewed
More than 116 million viewers logged on to watch online video clips to the tune of more than 5.9 billion video downloads in January. On average, viewers spent more than 120 minutes with online video and downloaded more than 50 streams per person.
This is a sign that online video in continuing to grow at a strong pace, making it a very viable avenue for online marketers.
Most users, however, continue to land on video pages through general interest portals (86%); many through search engines or from typing in an actual navigating address. However, the traffic from communities and social networks increased to a 25% share. Photography based sites drove about 20% of video traffic while online games and video/movie sites drove about 16% of the traffic to streaming sites.
There is a marked difference between female and male viewers according to the report. Women are more likely to download video clips from home or child-based websites. More than 378,000 streams were attributed to Fisher-Price, 406,000 from MarthaStewart.com and 627,000 streams from iVillage.com. Men, however, downloaded video mainly from entertainment websites. More than 2.6 million streams were accounted for by FoundryMusic.com. More than 650,000 streams were attributed to both ShoutFile.com and Space.com.
