Silver surfers serious about online security
In light of their uber-use of technology, you’d assume that younger generations of Internet users would be savvier than older, less technologically-submerged age groups. But are they?
The somewhat surprising results of a survey by British credit protection firm CPP showed that British Internet users aged between 16 and 44 definitely don't take online security as seriously as silver surfers.
If a website contains no indication that it is secure 80% of the 45 to 54 year olds surveyed said they would not shop there, compared to 68% of 16 to 24 year olds and an average of just 42% across younger users to age 44.
"It is surprising that young people take the most risks online, where you might assume that they would be much more 'web aware' than the internet's older users," said CPP identity theft expert, Danny Harrison.
According to the survey, online fraud has affected one in ten Britons, of which 37% are unsure as to how or where it happened, such is the lack of vigilance.
