Google beta spends advertisers' budgets
Google has selected various advertisers to participate in a beta for a new AdWords feature that will ensure daily ad budgets are spent.
Google is reportedly due to start beta testing an AdWords feature called “Automatic Matching”. Advertisers who are left with a surplus ad budget at the end of the day will find their spare dollars depleted as the “Automatic Matching” program serves up ads on relevant search queries that are not already triggered by their keyword lists.
The invitation email from Google talks of the benefits to advertisers, but some believe the only beneficiary will be Google’s pockets. As Dan Thies of www.seofaststart.com writes, “Now they're offering you the exciting opportunity to bleed every penny of your budget every day, advertising against keywords that you didn't want to bid on”.
Of course, the key word in all this is “beta”. All sorts of ideas that make beta don’t come to fruition, this could be one of them.
