The opening up of the domestic tourism market, coupled with the Beijing Olympics, will drive a huge rise in China’s online travel market, according to recent report by the Data Center of the China Internet.
One of the most rapidly growing online sectors in China is travel. Last year saw a growth of 65.4 percent with a further 71 percent increase predicted for 2008. The report forecasts a growth rate of over 90 percent in 2009.
Revenue from China’s online travel sector is set to increase from 2007’s figure of $309 million to $527 during 2008, reaching $1 billion in 2009.
Shanghai-based Ctrip.com remains the market leader online as more and more Chinese turn to the Internet to book accommodation and transport.
