WIDGNET offers social networking ad service
As the social space continues to heat up, marketers are looking for new ways to tap in to the marketplace. A new ad platform from Advertising.com could be part of the solution. Called WIDGNET, the platform hooks social networkers up to the Advertising.com ad network.
WIDGNET places banner ads into the widgets used by social networkers to share video clips, favorite quotes or even news clips on their network profile pages. The application is only available to Facebook developers at this time.
“Even the developers of some of the most popular applications don’t have an effective and efficient way to monetize the assets they create,” says Lynda Clarizio, President at Advertising.com “We intend to change that by ensuring developers are compensated for their efforts and advertisers can leverage this unique channel – spurring even more innovation in this dynamic segment.”
There are more than 9,000 widgets available to Facebook users which could account for 600 million pageviews each month.
Targeting Facebook users is not a bad idea. According to a recent Nielsen//Netratings report Facebook saw increased growth of 125% year over year from October 2006 to October 2007.
Later on the platform may be expanded for use in other web widgets.
