Alloy, Zwinky team for teen ad network
Zwinky, an online avatar making hub targeting the teen market, and Alloy Media + Marketing have teamed up to create an online advertising network focused on the teen market. Teen.com launched earlier this month and allows marketers to target teens with display ads.
The ads are placed throughout the Alloy network. The sites are heavy with teen traffic and will also include social networking sites as well as entertainment hubs.
The teen demographic is a tough one to crack for many advertisers. First because teens are increasingly hard to target and second because parental and privacy groups don't want teens and tweens to be overly advertised to. This partnership is likely to miss the parental backlash that similar youth networks have seen because of the relationship between Alloy and Zwinky, which already has ad agreements with Ask.com. Because advertising is already expected from that site, parents will likely not object to another or more forms of advertising being used.
Earlier this year a study from Packaged Facts indicated that the teen market would begin to decline by about 3% by 2011, the market for products targeted to teens will rise by about from $189 billion (2007) to $208 billion (2011).
