Social networks trusted, visits rising
A couple of years ago, visits to social networking and media sharing websites were random and infrequent. Today they are becoming regular haunts.
Thirty-four percent of people surveyed by Faves.com for their “social Internet” survey visited a social networking site, like Facebook or MySpace, on a weekly basis. Two years ago that figure was just 13 percent.
In 2005, under 10 percent of Internet users visited media sharing sites, such as Flickr or YouTube – that figure has risen to 26 percent this year.
Not only are visits to social Internet sites up but so is users’ trust in these sort of websites. Thirty-six percent said they “highly trust” information from their friends and acquaintances on social networks. A massive 90 percent say they “moderately trust” social network contact
“People are interacting differently with the Web today, and as the survey results show, people trust their online social networks more than any other online resource,” said Rob Dickerson, chief executive officer of Faves.com. “Also today people are much more comfortable posting to the Web, whether it’s expressing an opinion, uploading digital content, or adding a comment on a blog.”
