That is a 6% increase year over year.

According to the report Yahoo also had a strong showing, accounting for 21.6% of all US searches. MSN's Live Search ranked third with 7% of searches while Ask.com accounted for 4% of searches.

Search engines continue to push traffic toward several key online industries. According to Hitwise, health and medical websites received 45% of their traffic from a search engine. More than 30% of the traffic to travel websites was gained from a search engine and 25% of shopping/classifieds traffic was brought in by search.

Related research from Nielsen//Netratings shows Google with a firm lead in the search realm. According to recent data from the online metrics firm, 120 million users visited a Google website in October and spent over 90 minutes there. Microsoft sites pulled in 119 million uniques, spending more than 2 hours online; Yahoo, meanwhile, accounted for 110 million unique user visits.
