Break.com offers customizable video player

For the first time, an online video player comes with a recommendation tab. Why is this important? Because knowing what clips are recommended can help advertisers better choose what videos should be sponsored.

breaklogo.gif“Incorporating search, discovery and personalization is becoming a crucial component of emerging digital media, especially for online video,” says Keith Richman, CEO, Break.com. “We want to provide our users and content creators with the unique ability to personalize their own content, while being able to easily discover video that is the most appealing and relevant.”

The new platform makes it simpler to target video to consumers based on their past preferences; for content publishers the platform allows creators to highlight their own brand within the video player.

For users, the recommendation tool is a better way to get relevant content to the user's desktop. A history of the video's ratings and even a listing of friends ratings of videos will be shown.

For the advertisers there are also benefits. Break.com's second release is a customizable embedded video player. The player gives the advertiser or the content creator power over the external look of the player and also helps them control the content that is played through the video player. Users can play one video while continuing to search for more vid clips.

I looked at the site and, frankly speaking, did not find much difference from YouTube. The same recommendation principle. Did I miss something?
