Survey: economy will push more ad dollars online

With more and more advertisers looking for a better return on their investments, many are considering online platforms to get it. According to a recent study for MediaPost, the current economy will push even more advertising dollars into the online space as we move into 2008.

The survey was performed by InsightExpress and questioned MediaPost users to learn how their advertising budgets would change in the coming year.

According to the research, 70% of users have an increase in their Q4 budgets compared to the amount of spending in 2006; almost 30% increased their ad spend between 11% and 20%. From the second quarter to the third quarter, 59% of users said they had increased their online budgets and 34% said they planned to increase their online advertising budgets in 2008. Only 7% of users said they would decrease their online ad budgets.

In a similar study, The Nielsen Group found that overall ad spending has shown a decline in 2007 but that online ad spending continues to show an increase in spending. Online advertising showed a 23% increase in spending for the first half of 2007, while traditional ad spending in newspapers, business-to-business magazines and local magazines all showed a decline in overall advertising revenue.
