Premium .mobi domain names go under the hammer
After the initial rush for .mobi domain names, some of the most desirable .mobi domain names are being sold off by dotMobi.
From this Wednesday, 26 September, dotMobi will auction off around 100 of its Premium Names. With domain names such as sell.mobi, insurance.mobi, ATM.mobi and automobile.mobi the auction is sure to see some big sales.
"The mobile web is bigger than the PC-based, wired web with more than 1.6 billion Internet-enabled consumers walking around the world. Brands need an easy-to-remember way to attract consumers on the go,” said David Ryder, dotMobi's VP of Marketing and Sales. “dotMobi has one of the highest sought-after list of in-demand domain names in the world.”
A dobMobi auction in October, 2006, saw two highly sought after .mobi domains - flowers.mobi and fun.mobi - sell for $200,000 and $100,000 respectively. An average .mobi domain name sells for a pricetag in the low thousands.
Via a new Request for Proposal (RFP) process, The Weather Channel has secured the weather.mobi domain. "Through this RFP process, dotMobi developed a program that enables companies like The Weather Channel Interactive to provide the best content for highly-desired .mobi domain names in a way that is always focused on mobile consumers,” said Louis Gump, Vice President, Mobile, for The Weather Channel Interactive.
