Online shoppers in the U.S. on the rise
A 2005 survey into U.S. online shopping has been updated, and the findings show a marked increase in the number of online shoppers.
iCrossing Inc.’s August survey, “How America Searches: Online Retail”, found that 39 percent of online adults make a purchase on the Internet at least once a month. That’s a rise of 30 percent from 2005’s figure of 30 percent.
Other key findings from the survey, which can be dowloaded in its entirety, include:
- Blogs more than doubled in popularity as a source of customer reviews, from 4 percent in 2005, to 10 percent.
- 42 percent of all consumers perceive information about brands and products on sites like Wikipedia to be “extremely” or “very influential” to their online purchasing decisions.
- Online reviews were seen as “extremely” or “very important” factors in the online purchasing decision.
- Search engines are used by 65 percent of online shoppers to conduct product research.
- The number of consumers spending between $500 - $1,000 annually on online goods and services was 21 percent compared with 16 percent in 2005.
