News content is the most watched
Forget about movie trailers, funny home videos or favorite music clips. According to a recent Advertising.com study, news clips are the most watched streaming video form.
Researchers found that in Q1 and Q2 roughly 60% of those surveyed said they had watched some kind of streaming video. And it isn't just the younger set who are watching, the study found that well over 65% of those who have watched streaming video are over the age of 35.
What did the viewers watch? About 62% watched news clips, 38% watched movie trailers and 36% watched music videos.
There is a disparity between the age groups. Those 34 and younger prefer entertainment clips - videos, movie trailers or television clips - while those over 35 preferred news and other information.
Though still a fairly new content area, video is quickly rising with consumers. As video becomes relevant to more consumers there will likely be a shift from those watching mostly news to those with varied viewing habits.
Lynda Clarizio, president of Advertising.com. “It will be interesting to see how viewership evolves with the rise of social networks, more diverse video content, increased interactive gaming, and other such advances in online entertainment. I think we may see a shift in usage toward recreation; these latest figures certainly hint at that trend.”
